The German police
union doubts that it makes sense to resume the Bundesliga season in the current situation, caused by the coronavirus pandemic. The text for the
return of the competition is presented this Thursday in the virtual assembly of
the German League, which can approve the resumption of the Bundesliga from May
9.
Jörg Radek, vice president of said union, assured that "Even
without an epidemic, football
requires an intense deployment of police personnel."
Radek also said that if the season is resumed behind closed
doors, there will be a danger that fans will gather outside the stadiums to
support their teams, despite the social distancing imposed by health
authorities to stop the spread of the coronavirus.
"Football
matches would imply much more costs for more police personnel," stressed
the vice president of the police union, adding that this would increase the
risk of infection among those who participated in them and among fans, even if
they did not attend stadiums.
